This is an exciting time to join Kisharon School as we are moving into our brand new, purpose built school building, opening in September 2020.

We are looking for someone to cover a maternity leave from the end of April 2020 with the possibility of becoming permanent.

As an Occupational Therapist, you will play a big part in developing our pupil’s independence. You will join a dedicated team working with pupils with severe and profound learning disabilities, ASD, ADHD and communication difficulties. You will contribute to helping our pupils build a brighter future for themselves. This is a challenging role, but the rewards are worth it.

James Rennie School is a specialist all age school for 150 wonderful pupils with severe and profound learning needs, they come from across the North of Cumbria. Due to the retirement of the current post holder we need to recruit a new assistant head to lead our primary team and coordinated special educational needs.

The post would equally suit someone from a special needs background or with mainstream experience, and we have the view that we can train for knowledge to enable our pupils to succeed but we can’t train for the person you are.

We’d like you to support our current educational provision but with the whole school help us to develop something that’s even better. You’ll play a key role in supporting our pupils learning, developing other staff and driving development within our primary department.

Our Curriculum is based on what children need to learn, and how do they need to learn; as such the successful candidate will have the imagination and insight to look at the barriers to learning and help us innovate ways to reduce and remove these. Most of all you will enjoy and want to celebrate what are pupils learn in partnership with our families and whole community.

Whilst a SENCO qualification isn’t necessary for the role within Special Schools we would like to support you to gain this if you do not hold the qualification already so you have the best possible knowledge and skills for the role.

We like to invite possible supply Teachers into school on a voluntary basis to spend some time with our pupils before they cover a staff member. We have found that this benefits both the pupils and the supply teacher, especially if they have little special needs teaching experience.

We are always looking to increase our bank of supply Teaching Assistants who are available to work in school. Work may be on an ad hoc basis to cover for absent staff or regular work to cover in a class when a child from our school attends a teaching session in their local mainstream school supported by their own Teaching Assistant.

We would be interested in hearing from anyone that has a Child Care qualification equivalent to NVQ Level Two or higher, with good levels of literacy and numeracy. All Supply Teaching Assistants must have a current enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)clearance, which can be facilitated by school. We would recommend joining the DBS update service.

We are looking to appoint friendly, calm and enthusiastic people to join our existing dedicated team of supervisory assistants. The successful applicants will be working within a supportive, fun team and will be an important member of the school structure.

You will need to be flexible and ensure confidentiality and safeguarding is given the highest regard.

Main duties will include

    • Supervising pupils in the lunch hall, outside on the playground or in their classrooms during wet lunch breaks.
    • ncouraging positive play by leading a range of playground games.
    • Ensuring the safety, welfare and good conduct of pupils
    • Promoting healthy eating
    • Ensuring any issues are dealt with in a positive and thoughtful manner.
    • Assisting with associated duties, e.g. cleaning up spillages, ensuring tables are clean etc.
    • This role involves assisting with feeding programmes and all aspect of personal care
    • Supporting staff and children in the classroom before and after lunch
    • Previous experience is not essential, as full induction programme and training is offered by the school.
    • Interviews will be arranged on receipt of applications
